A special edition of Roman York by Patrick Ottaway consisting of the preface, Chapter 1 and bibliography is available free to download as a .pdf document. The 2004 edition of the book with full text and illustrations is available from the History Press (isbn 978 07524 29168).
Roman York tells the story of the fortress and town from their foundation in the late first century AD until the early fifth century when Britain ceased to be part of the Roman empire. Particular emphasis is placed on recent excavations and research.
